Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, have welcomed their second child, a baby girl named Athena. Athena was born prematurely on January 22nd at 12:57 pm at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, weighing just 4lb 5oz. Despite being born several weeks ahead of schedule, Athena is said to be healthy and doing well.
Buckingham Palace shared the news in a statement, expressing the joy of the royal family. "Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi," the palace confirmed. "Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of the royal family have all been informed and are delighted with the news."
The royal couple, who were originally expecting their child in early spring, had been advised in December to avoid long-distance travel. Princess Beatrice, who was due later in the season, made adjustments to her holiday plans and remained closer to home. Doctors had previously warned that a premature birth was a possibility, which unfortunately came to pass.
In an Instagram post, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi shared his delight, calling Athena "tiny and absolutely perfect." He also expressed his gratitude to the staff at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, thanking them for their care and support during the birth. He included a sweet photo of Athena, wrapped in a pink blanket, with her face hidden by her arm.
Princess Beatrice's sister, Princess Eugenie, also celebrated the arrival of Athena by sharing a photo of the newborn on her Instagram Stories, with a caption that read, "Welcome Baby Girl."
Athena joins the family as a younger sister to Beatrice and Edoardo's three-year-old daughter, Sienna, and Edoardo's eight-year-old son, Wolfie, from his previous marriage. The family is now back home, where they are enjoying precious moments together with their new addition.
