Prince Harry Returns To UK To Appeal Security Ruling

Prince Harry returned to the UK this week for a two-day hearing at London’s Royal Courts of Justice, where he is challenging the Home Office’s decision to downgrade his police protection. The Duke of Sussex lost his publicly funded security in 2020 after stepping down as a senior royal. While a High Court judge previously upheld the decision, The Duke’s legal team argues he was “singled out” and not properly assessed for the risks he faces. The Court of Appeal has agreed to review the case, with parts of the hearing being held in private due to the sensitive nature of the security details involved.

The Duke of Sussex’s fight centers around what he sees as a failure to keep him and his family safe when they visit the UK. “The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children,” he said in a statement, adding that he couldn't risk their safety or his wife’s, given the hostility they face. The government insists that his security is handled on a case-by-case basis, based on his changed status.

His legal battles haven’t been limited to government policy—Prince Harry has also been involved in multiple lawsuits against British tabloids, with some notable wins. Meanwhile, his charity Sentebale has come under scrutiny, with its former CEO accusing him of bullying and racism, claims the Duke called “heartbreaking.” His surprise court appearance comes while his father, King Charles, is on a state visit to Italy, leaving questions about whether the family will reunite.
