Las Vegas Sphere To Host 2024 NHL Draft
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has announced that the 2024 Upper Deck NHL Draft will take place at Sphere in Las Vegas on June 28th and 29th, making them the first sports league and first live televised event held at Sphere. The venue, which opened in September 2023 and is known for its cutting-edge technology, will host the draft's first round on June 28th and rounds 2-7 the following day.
NHL executives, scouts and coaches are expected to be present on the Draft floor, with thousands of fans and press representatives expected to attend the event. The San Jose Sharks, who won the right to have the first pick at the NHL Draft Lottery on Tuesday, are expected to choose 17-year-old Canadian forward Macklin Celebrini, the youngest player in his division, as the first overall pick.
“The NHL is proud to bring the first sports event and the first live television broadcast to Sphere,” said Steve Mayer, NHL senior executive vice president and chief content officer in a recent news release. “Together with the amazing team at Sphere, we plan to deliver an NHL Draft like no other, introducing the bright future of hockey in an innovative and exhilarating setting.”
With Sphere evolving as a premier entertainment destination, the NHL Draft is a significant step into the arena hosting a larger variety of events. Fans can purchase tickets to attend the draft from Thursday.
