La Voix to Skip Strictly’s Blackpool Weekend After Injury
Strictly Come Dancing favourite La Voix will miss the show’s big Blackpool weekend after suffering an injury that doctors have told her to rest. The BBC confirmed the decision, saying the drag performer and her pro partner Aljaž Škorjanec will get a pass straight through to next week, “when it is hoped they will be able to dance again.” The show added it wished her “a speedy recovery.”
La Voix didn’t hide how hard the news hit, saying it was “with immense sadness that I have to withdraw,” and that “my heart truly breaks knowing I won't be dancing in such an iconic venue.” She added that she and Aljaž had worked hard on their routine and were “so excited to share” it. For now, she’s focusing on recovering and says she’ll be cheering from the sidelines.
The timing is especially tough since the Blackpool Tower Ballroom is widely seen as the highlight of the Strictly season. While La Voix sits this one out, the remaining six couples will perform as planned, with musical performances from Lewis Capaldi and Steps. Former finalists Ashley Roberts, Danny Mac, Jay McGuiness and Layton Williams will also return for the occasion.
Fans rushed online to send well-wishes. Some wrote messages like “Oh no!! Hope it heals soon La Voix,” while others said this was the week she’d been looking forward to the most. A few even called for recently eliminated Vicky Pattison to be briefly reinstated, though producers haven’t responded to that idea.
La Voix — the alter ego of Chris Dennis — has become one of the standout personalities of the season, bringing sharp humour to chats with Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. She even joked about wanting their jobs after the pair announced they’d be stepping down at the end of the series, asking Claudia, “Do you know the address when you send your CV to the BBC?”
Her popularity has only grown following earlier success on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, Britain’s Got Talent, and Queens For The Night, and fans were eager to see how she’d tackle Blackpool. With her bye secured, viewers will have to wait until next week to see whether she returns to the dancefloor.
