Israel Has Agreed To Terms For A 60-Day Ceasefire, Says Trump

President Donald Trump has announced that Israel has agreed to the terms of a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, which would see a pause in fighting and potential hostage releases. He said Qatar and Egypt will present the proposal to Hamas, and urged them to accept in a recent post on Truth Social: “It will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.” Trump’s post comes ahead of a scheduled meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington next week.

While Israel hasn't officially confirmed the deal, there are signs of support from Israeli officials. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar noted a strong government majority in favor of a framework to release hostages, and military chief Eyal Zamir has reportedly warned that continued assaults could risk the lives of the captives. Around 20 hostages are believed to be alive in Gaza. Netanyahu's government appears torn, balancing demands from far-right allies with growing public support for ending the war.

Hamas, meanwhile, remains firm on its demand for a permanent ceasefire and a full Israeli withdrawal - conditions that Israel has repeatedly rejected. The proposal is similar to one that failed earlier this year. Still, with mounting pressure from Washington and hopes of restarting normalization talks with Arab nations, optimism is growing that this time, a breakthrough might be possible.
