The wait is almost over for the biggest video game launch of the decade. Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will hit consoles on November 19th, 2026, with pre-orders opening at midnight local time on June 25th.
After a couple of delays, with the release originally slated for autumn 2025 and then May 2026, the studio pushed the date back to ensure the final product has the polish fans "expect and deserve". However, the development cycle hasn't been without controversy, navigating hacks and allegations of "union-busting" at Rockstar North in Edinburgh.
Pricing, Platforms, and Pre-Orders
The industry has been buzzing with rumors about a massive price hike for the rumored $1 billion project. By confirming an elevated base price, Rockstar officially breaks the gaming industry's '$70 barrier', in a move that could prompt other AAA studios to follow suit.
Standard Edition ($79.99): Available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. (There's no news yet on a PC or Nintendo Switch 2 release).
Ultimate Edition ($99.99): Includes digital perks like an "exclusive collection" of custom weapons, vehicles, and outfits.
Pre-Order Bonus: Anyone securing their copy by November 20th also gets the Vintage Vice City Pack.
There's a slight twist for gamers who prefer physical media. While boxed copies will be available a week early on November 12th to help players pre-load the massive file, they won't actually contain a disc. Instead, buyers will just find a download code inside the box. Digital buyers can also begin their pre-loading on November 12th.
Welcome Back to Vice City
At launch, GTA 6 will deliver a massive “single-player experience” set in Leonida, a fictionalized take on Florida complete with alligators and flamingos.
The story returns to the fan-favorite Vice City (Miami) and introduces the series' first 3D female protagonist, Lucia. Alongside her partner Jason, the duo navigates a messy Bonnie and Clyde-style criminal journey after an "easy score goes wrong". Whether a revamped GTA Online will launch on day one remains a mystery, though the existing multiplayer mode will seemingly keep running in the meantime.
With hundreds of millions of trailer views already logged, November can't come soon enough for fans eager to return to the sun-soaked streets of Vice City.
