FBI Director Refuses to Testify on Trump Shooting
Christopher Wray who is the FBI Director has refused to testify before the House Homeland Security Committee. This is about the planned and attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. The incident happened on 13th of July 2024 at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was shot in the ear. One attendee was killed and another one was wounded. The shooter who is Thomas Crooks was killed by police.
The committee which is led by Chairman Mark Green wanted Wray, the Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle and the Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to testify. They wanted to understand the security weaknesses that allowed the shooter to get so close to Trump.
Wray’s decision not to testify has upset lawmakers who seek answers. The FBI is leading the investigation and has conducted nearly 100 interviews by now. They are also examining the shooter’s cellphone. Other Senate and House committees as well as the DHS Office of Inspector General are also investigating the event.
Despite Wray’s refusal it is still not sure if another FBI official will testify instead of him.
