Erling Haaland Signs New Long-Term Deal with Manchester City

Erling Haaland Signs New Long-Term Deal with Manchester City

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has committed his future to the club, signing a new contract that will keep him at the Etihad until 2034. The Norwegian forward, who joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has already made a massive impact, scoring 111 goals in 126 games and helping City secure multiple trophies, including a historic treble in 2023.

"I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club," Haaland said. "Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it's the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody."

The 24-year-old's previous deal was set to expire in 2027 and reportedly included a release clause. His new contract, however, secures his place at City for another decade, making it the longest deal in the Premier League. Reports suggest it is also "one of the most lucrative sporting contracts ever," though specific financial details have not been disclosed.

City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, praised Haaland’s commitment to the club, stating, "The fact he is signed for so long demonstrates our commitment to him as a player and his love for the club. He has made an incredible impact already in his time here and his amazing numbers and records speak for themselves."

Haaland has enjoyed back-to-back Golden Boot-winning seasons, breaking the Premier League single-season goal record with 36 goals in his debut campaign. Despite missing time with injuries, he has continued his dominance, scoring 21 times in 28 appearances this season.

His renewal comes just months after Pep Guardiola extended his contract, dismissing speculation that Haaland’s future was tied to the manager’s stay. The striker, who is already 15th on City’s all-time scoring list, expressed his desire to keep improving under Guardiola’s guidance.

"Now I am City no matter what," Haaland said. "I want to keep developing, keep working to get better and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward."

The timing of Haaland’s new deal comes as City faces uncertainty off the pitch, with the club awaiting the outcome of its legal battle with the Premier League. The team has also struggled in the league this season, currently trailing behind leaders Liverpool.

Despite City’s challenges, Haaland’s contract extension is a huge boost for the reigning champions, ensuring they retain one of the best strikers in world football for years to come.
