British National Killed in Hit-and-Run Involving Kenyan President's Motorcade

A 79-year-old British man, Edgar Charles Frederick, has tragically died after being struck by a vehicle in the motorcade of Kenyan President William Ruto. The incident occurred on Thursday on Ngong Road in Nairobi, as the president's convoy was heading to a public engagement. The vehicle involved was a government support vehicle traveling behind the presidential convoy. While the motorcade had already passed by the time of the accident, the driver did not stop, sparking outrage on social media. Police later arrested the driver but released him on bail, and an investigation is currently underway.

Frederick, who was in Kenya visiting his sister and nephew, was seen lying on the road with heavy head injuries after the hit-and-run. Videos and images shared on social media showed the victim covered with a Maasai Shuka, a traditional cloth. The British High Commission confirmed they are in contact with local authorities to support the family, while the Kenyan police have promised to conduct a post-mortem. The incident has caused a public outcry, with many questioning the high speed of the convoy and the size of the motorcade.

This is not the first time a motorcade-related accident has occurred in Kenya, but the case has garnered attention due to the foreign nationality of the victim. President Ruto's convoy, known for moving at high speeds for security reasons, is often a subject of scrutiny, especially when such incidents involve pedestrians.
