Boots Recalls Paracetamol Due to Packaging Error

Boots has issued an urgent recall for its 500mg Paracetamol tablets after a packaging error mislabeled blister packs as "Aspirin 300mg Dispersible Tablets." Although the tablets inside are confirmed to be paracetamol, customers are being advised to stop using them immediately. The affected batch, numbered 241005, can be identified on the bottom of the box and should be returned to any Boots store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.
The recall affects more than 110,000 packs, and Boots, along with its supplier Aspar Pharmaceuticals Limited, is conducting a full investigation. While the outer box is correctly labeled as paracetamol, the misprinted inner foil packaging has raised concerns over potential confusion and incorrect dosing. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has urged customers to check their packaging and not keep the product, even if they are aware of the mistake.
Dr. Stephanie Millican from the MHRA emphasized the importance of verifying the batch number. “It is vitally important that you check the packaging of your Boots Paracetamol 500mg Tablets 16s, and if the batch number is 241005, you should stop using the product and return it to a Boots store for a full refund," she said. "If you are unsure which pack you have purchased or have taken Boots Paracetamol 500mg Tablets and experienced any side effects, seek advice from a healthcare professional.” She also encouraged reporting any adverse reactions through the MHRA’s Yellow Card scheme.
Customers who purchased the product for someone else should inform them as soon as possible. Those with questions or concerns are advised to speak with a pharmacist or healthcare professional. Boots has also issued a warning on its official Facebook page to alert customers of the recall.
While paracetamol and aspirin are both common pain relievers, they work differently, and a mix-up could impact those who rely on specific medications. Anyone who has taken tablets from the affected batch and is experiencing side effects should seek medical advice immediately.
