At Least Six Killed After Tourist Submarine Sinks Off Coast Of Egypt
A tourist submarine named Sindbad sank near Hurghada, Egypt, on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of at least six foreign passengers, according to local officials. The vessel was carrying 45 tourists, including minors, on a routine underwater excursion when it crashed approximately one kilometer from shore. Emergency services, including 21 ambulances, responded swiftly to the incident, and Egyptian authorities reported that 29 people were rescued, with some taken to hospitals for treatment.
The Russian consulate in Hurghada confirmed that 45 Russian tourists were aboard the submarine but did not specify the nationalities of the deceased. The Russian embassy in Cairo stated that four of the victims were Russian. The cause of the accident remains unclear, but Security officials are continuing to verify the status of the remaining passengers.
The Sindbad submarine had been operating tourist trips for several years, offering visitors an opportunity to explore the Red Sea’s coral reefs. The incident follows a similar maritime tragedy in November when a tourist yacht capsized in the Red Sea, killing four people.
