Apex Legends North American Finals Postponed After Pros Hacked Mid Match

The North American Finals of Apex Legends has been postponed due to concerns over the game's "competitive integrity."

Unwanted cheat codes disrupt Apex Legends final

Players encountered unwanted cheat modes mid-match, raising worries about the safety of their accounts and the overall security of the game. Clips shared by players revealed instances of aimbots and wallhacks being activated without their consent, destroying the integrity of the finals without any of the players actually attempting to cheat.

High-profile players such as Genburten and ImperialHal found themselves victimised by these hacks during the finals, with Genburten experiencing a "wallhack" and ImperialHal encountering an aimbot. One player was even banned as a result before Respawn shut it down.

Players warned to be cautious playing games protected by EAC

The Anti-Cheat Police Department indicated that hackers used a Remote Code Execution (RCE) exploit to gain control over EA games protected by Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). The attack has led to mass complaints about Apex’s anti-cheat system and has raised concerns about whether this could impact regular players, with gamers stating that if it can breach a pro match, what is to stop it from happening to other players?

Players across the globe have been warned by the Anti-Cheat Police Department to exercise caution around opening games owned by EA or that are protected by EAC until it is resolved. The professionals who participated in the tournament were also urged to take immediate steps to safeguard their personal information, including changing passwords and enabling two-factor authentication.

Easy Anti-Cheat has responded to the problem with a statement on X, saying that they are “confident that there is no RCE vulnerability within EAC being exploited” and that they will be working closely with their partners for any follow up support that is required. As investigations continue and the community awaits further updates from Respawn and EA, players are encouraged to exercise caution and await official statements before resuming gameplay.
