Anna Sorokin Debuts on Dancing With The Stars with Sparkly Ankle Monitor

Anna Sorokin Debuts on Dancing With The Stars with Sparkly Ankle Monitor

Convicted con artist Anna "Delvey" Sorokin made quite the entrance on the premiere of Dancing With The Stars, turning heads with her sparkling ankle monitor. The infamous "fake heiress," who scammed Manhattan's elite out of approximately $67 million, took to the dancefloor on Tuesday night as the show kicked off its new season.

Sorokin, who was imprisoned for her elaborate fraud schemes, told reporters, "It's actually not a big issue at all. It's pretty light and I asked them to make it tight so it doesn't dangle. So it's not so bad."

Her dance partner, Ezra Sosa, jokingly noted that the monitor was "the real star of the show."

To add flair to her ankle monitor, Sorokin collaborated with the Dancing With The Stars costume department.

"Obviously, we could not leave the ankle bracelet naked, so we decided to match it," she said, explaining how they dressed up the monitor.

Daniela Gschwendtner, the show’s costume designer, also mentioned plans to make the monitor a fun part of the costume, ensuring it wouldn’t overshadow the performances.

The performance, set to Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso," didn’t quite go as planned, and Sorokin admitted, "I feel relieved that it's over. I feel like my dance could have been a little bit better, but I'm happy I've done this and it was a great experience all over."

Despite her history, she expressed hope that viewers would be forgiving: "Hopefully people will give me a chance to show what I can do. And I served my time and I repaid my restitution."

While Sorokin's appearance sparked curiosity, reactions from fans were mixed. Phrases like "Anna Delvey's Lackluster DWTS Debut" trended on social media as some viewers voiced their disappointment.

Sorokin's journey back into the spotlight is complex. Released from prison in February 2021, she was immediately taken into custody by immigration authorities for overstaying her visa. After more than a year in detention, she transitioned to home confinement in October 2022, which allowed her to travel to Los Angeles for the show.

As Sorokin continues her journey on Dancing With The Stars, she’s also involved in other projects, including a podcast and reality show. Fans are left wondering what’s next for the controversial figure, who’s determined to dance her way back into public favour.
