Meta-Mayhem Returns: ‘Scary Movie 6’ Trailer to Debut Alongside ‘Scream 7’ Next Week
LOS ANGELES — In a move that brings the most famous rivalry in horror history full circle, Paramount Pictures and Miramax have confirmed that the first trailer for Scary Movie 6 will officially debut in theaters next Friday 27th February 2026.
The teaser is set to play exclusively before screenings of Scream 7, a fittingly meta choice, considering the original Scary Movie began as a parody of the very franchise it will now share the marquee with.
The "Family Reunion" 25 Years in the Making
The sixth installment marks a historic homecoming for the Wayans family. For the first time since Scary Movie 2 (2001), brothers Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans have reunited to write and produce the script.
Marlon Wayans recently teased the "no holds barred" approach during an appearance on the Rap Attack podcast, confirming that the OG squad is back in full force.
-
Anna Faris returns as the perpetually confused Cindy Campbell.
-
Regina Hall reprises her fan-favorite role as the indestructible Brenda Meeks.
-
Marlon and Shawn Wayans return as Shorty and Ray, respectively.
-
Dave Sheridan is also confirmed to return as "Doofy," the bumbling Ghostface parody.
A New Era of Spoofery
Directed by Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House), Scary Movie 6 aims to skewer the "elevated horror" and "legacy sequel" trends that have dominated the box office over the last decade.
While the official synopsis is being kept under wraps, insiders suggest the film will take aim at modern hits such as Longlegs, M3GAN, Smile, and Jordan Peele’s Get Out. The cast has also been bolstered by a mix of franchise veterans and new comedic heavyweights, including Cheri Oteri (reprising her role as Gail Hailstorm), Chris Elliott, Damon Wayans Jr., and SNL’s Heidi Gardner.
The Road to12th June
The trailer drop kicks off a high-octane marketing campaign for the film’s 12th June 2026, theatrical release. It’s a crowded summer corridor, with the Wayans' reboot set to compete for laughs against major blockbusters like Toy Story 5 and a new Steven Spielberg project.
However, industry analysts believe the nostalgia factor combined with the return of the original creators, gives Scary Movie 6 a significant edge. "The fans have been starved for a true parody that doesn't pull its punches," noted one industry insider. "Having the Wayans back isn't just a marketing gimmick; it's a return to the franchise's DNA."
As Scream 7 prepares to slash through the box office next weekend, audiences should stay in their seats during the previews, because the Wayans are officially ready to "watch your back."
