LOS ANGELES — Live Nation Studios and Ketchup Entertainment have released the raucous first Red Band trailer for Rolling Loud: The Movie, a high-octane comedy starring Owen Wilson as an overzealous father who loses his teenage son amidst the bedlam of the world’s biggest hip-hop festival (trailer below).

Written and directed by Jeremy Garelick (Murder Mystery 2), the feature takes inspiration from Garelick's real-life panic when he briefly lost his own 13-year-old son at Rolling Loud in Los Angeles three years ago.

Scheduled to hit cinemas on 2nd October, the film promises an unfiltered blend of slapstick humor, festival absurdity, and high-profile cameos from hip-hop royalty.

A Father-Son Bonding Weekend Gone Wildly Wrong

The Red Band preview introduces Wilson as a well-meaning, by-the-book father eager to earn "cool dad" credentials with his 13-year-old son, played by Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth).

Defying his wife’s strict instructions, Wilson’s character sneaks his son into the packed Rolling Loud festival in Miami to see headline act Travis Scott. However, the dream bonding weekend instantly unravels when the teenager vanishes into a sea of tens of thousands of festivalgoers.

Desperate to locate his son, the frantic father navigates mosh pits, security backstage, and erratic festival crowds, teaming up with an unhinged attendee played by stand-up comedian Matt Rife.

Speaking about translating his real-life ordeal onto the big screen, director Jeremy Garelick explained how real panic gave rise to comedic inspiration:

"This all started from the chaos of me bringing my son to Rolling Loud in LA three years ago," Garelick recalled. "I lost him, and he was only 13. I freaked out, looked all over, and finally found him about half an hour later. Once the relief hit, I just thought, 'That's a good movie. That'll be a fun movie to write.'"

Beyond its core comedy ensemble, which features Christine Ko, Olivia Luccardi, and veteran actor Henry Winkler—the film brings authentic festival energy with appearances from prominent recording artists.

Rapper Travis Scott plays a prominent version of himself as the festival's headliner, alongside appearances from Sexyy Red, Ty Dolla $ign, and Ski Mask the Slump God.

"It’s always about taking a moment that in real life is tragic or high-stakes and using comedic timing and funny people to flip it," Garelick noted. "Like the zip-up scene in 'There's Something About Mary'—in real life it's horrific, but on screen it's pure comedy."
