‘Alien: Earth’ Season 2 Moves Production to Pinewood as 2027 Window Emerges

Home of the Xenomorph: ‘Alien: Earth’ Season 2 Moves Production to Pinewood as 2027 Window Emerges

LONDON — The terror is coming home. Following the critically acclaimed debut of FX’s Alien: Earth, executive producer Dana Gonzales has confirmed that the series is officially entering the "world-building" phase for its second season. In a significant shift for the franchise, production is moving from the tropical locales of Thailand to the legendary Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England—the very birthplace of Ridley Scott’s 1979 original.

Gonzales shared the update via Instagram on Monday, posting an image of a production office sign at Pinewood emblazoned with the series’ iconic creature. “Super excited to start the journey of Alien: Earth Season 2,” Gonzales wrote. “World-building in the Alien universe birthplace.”

The 2027 Horizon

While FX has not yet set a definitive premiere date, the shift to active production at Pinewood provides the clearest timeline yet for the show's return. Given the intensive visual effects and post-production requirements typical of showrunner Noah Hawley’s meticulous style, industry analysts now point to a first-half 2027 release window.

The move to the UK is seen as a strategic play to streamline production, though early reports from industry resource Filmbase suggests the new season may be operating under a "squeezed" crew budget compared to the lavish first instalment.

A “Knightmare” Cliffhanger

Season 2 will have to answer the massive questions left by the Season 1 finale, which aired in September 2025. Fans are eager to see the continuation of Sydney Chandler’s journey as Wendy, the "meta-human" hybrid whose connection to the Xenomorphs redefined franchise canon.

Returning alongside Chandler, the core survivor cast is expected to include:

  • Alex Lawther as CJ

  • Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier

  • Babou Ceesay as Morrow

  • Timothy Olyphant as Kirsh

Series composer Jeff Russo also confirmed his return this week, replying to Gonzales’ announcement with an enthusiastic "Yes, yes!!! I will see you soon!”

Hawley’s Long-Term Roadmap

Noah Hawley has previously stated he has a five-season roadmap for the series, intending to explore the "Game of Thrones-style" corporate warfare between Earth’s rival megacorporations—specifically the rising power of Yutani before its eventual merger with Weyland.

The transition to Pinewood—where Aliens, Alien 3, and Prometheus were also filmed—suggests a tonal shift toward the claustrophobic, industrial aesthetic that defined the early films. By moving the story away from the "Neverland" research facility and deeper into the heart of Earth's corporate infrastructure, Season 2 looks to raise the stakes of the alien infestation.

Where to Watch

When it eventually makes its landing in 2027, Alien: Earth Season 2 will follow its predecessor’s distribution model, streaming exclusively on Hulu (and the Disney+ Hulu hub) in the United States and on Disney+ internationally.
